Our work
“We believe that by ensuring the health of the parts, we ensure the health of the whole, which is our health too.”
CPAWS-Quebec was formed in 2001 by passionate outdoor enthusiasts and science-based volunteers. Our chapter’s primary focus is on; establishing a network of protected areas throughout the province (including marine areas), protecting the boreal forest, and ensuring ecological integrity is maintained in existing parks and protected areas.
Since its conception, CPAWS-Quebecl is actively involved in:
- Protecting Monts Groulx, the Moisie and Magpie Rivers, as well as Sabourin Lake through the Quebec protected areas strategy.
- The initiative Aux arbres citoyens !, formed by CPAWS-Quebec, WWF Canada, the Réseau québécois des groupes écologistes (RQGE) and Nature Quebec/UQCN, in an effort to prioritize the protection of Quebec’s boreal forest. The last campaign Sleeping like a log, was supported by over 184,000 people, illustrating the importance of protected areas in Quebec. (www.auxarbrescitoyens.com and www.sleepinglikealog.com)
- Promoting ecological integrity either by taking legal suit if needed like with Oka and Mont Orford National Parks (of Quebec) or by promoting alternatives for conservation and development in and around parks. For more information, please contact us.
CPAWS-Quebec is currently active in two major conservation campaigns to protect Quebec’s boreal forests
- Pasacaga
- Vallée des montagnes blanches
In protecting southern forest
- Dumoine
In marine conservation through our National Ocean and freshwater lakes campaign
- Îles de la Madeleine
